Starbucks UK expands youth leadership scheme

Participants will gain hands-on experience, leadership and management training, and a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

Starbucks UK has launched the second round of its Accelerated Leadership Programme, aiming to fast-track more than 20 young people from entry level to store manager within 13 months.

The scheme, which opened for applications yesterday (7 July) during Youth Employment Week, offers a management-level qualification that typically takes three years to complete. Roles are available in London, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Participants will gain hands-on experience, leadership and management training, and a Level 3 apprenticeship qualification from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), equivalent to an A Level. The programme is delivered in partnership with training provider Corndel.

Alex Rayner, general manager of Starbucks UK, said: “We’re delighted to open further applications for our Accelerated Leadership Programme. The company is investing £5k in training each participant, totalling £100k for this cohort. Across both cohorts so far, the total investment exceeds £170k. The programme does not require prior hospitality experience and there is no obligation to remain with the company or repay training costs after completion.

The initiative forms part of Starbucks UK’s broader effort to provide young people with career opportunities, alongside its year-round apprenticeship scheme offering 150 roles from barista to degree-level positions.
